The purpose of the Dr. Phillip W. Lockhart, Sr. Scholarship is to aid the endeavors of graduating high school students who are attending college and demonstrate an interest in one of the things Dr. Lockhart was passionate about – higher education.

Meet the 2024 Scholarship Award Winners

Antwan Crawford

KIPP Delta Collegiate High School c/o 2024

Delta State University | Aviation & Flight Operations

Antwan Crawford isn’t just a senior at KIPP Delta Collegiate High School – he is a leader and an aspiring aviator. As a mentor for the Class of 2024, Mr. Crawford is dedicated to guiding his peers towards success. His passion for flight took him to Aviation Camp in Helena, AR, and his leadership qualities were recognized by the National KIPP Foundation, where he participated in a Student/Parent Panel with CEO Shavar Jeffries. Mr. Crawford is taking his academic journey to new heights by attending Delta State University in Cleveland, MS, where hw will pursue a degree in Aviation and Flight Operations.

Stanford Johnson

Jonesboro High School c/o 2024

Rice University | Mechanical Engineering

Stanford Johnson, a graduating senior at Jonesboro High School, exemplifies academic excellence and leadership. Ranked within the top 10% of his class and #1 among JHS African American graduates of 2024, Mr. Johnson actively contributes to his school community.

He served as Treasurer for both the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, demonstrating his commitment to academic achievement. Mr. Johnson also played a key role in JHS’s STEM initiatives as a VEX Robotics Senior Representative and STEM Academy Student Ambassador.

Beyond academics, Mr. Johnson fosters leadership through programs like Arkansas Boys State Delegation and Governor’s School Graduate (2023). His dedication extends to extracurricular activities, including participation in Dixie Band Camp.

Mr. Johnson’s accomplishments extend beyond the classroom. He was recognized as JHS’s September Student of the Month (2023) and Guthrie’s Chicken October Game Changer of the Month. Additionally, he received the prestigious Craighead County NAACP Scholarship. He will continue his academic journey at Rice University in Houston, TX, where he plans to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
